A court in Goa on Wednesday remanded the former Tehelka Editor-in-Chief, Tarun Tejpal — accused in a sexual assault and rape case — in judicial custody for 12 days and directed that he be kept in a separate cell if possible.

Judge Bosco Roberts directed that the Goa Inspector-General of Prisons, submit his opinion in this regard on Friday.

Lawyer Sandeep Kapoor, apprehending threat to Mr. Tejpal’s safety, urged that his client be lodged in a separate cell as he, as an investigative journalist, had antagonised several persons of various backgrounds (crime, political and corporate).
