A 37-year-old teacher was shot dead allegedly by two bike-borne assailants in Nayabagh village of Syana Tehsil on Friday, triggering protest by locals, police said.

Ajay Sharma, head of Primary School Teachers Association, was on his way to school in the morning when two unidentified persons shot him and escaped from the spot, Senior Superintendent of Police, Anant Dev Tiwari said, adding he died on the spot.

Following which irate locals disrupted vehicular movement on Bulandshahr-Garh highway demanding to arrest the culprits, police said.

The movement was restored only after assurance by the SSP to arrest the accused within two days. Prime facie it appears to be a case of old enmity arising of teachers union matter, Mr Tiwari said.

Five police teams have been formed to nab the perpetrators, he said. - PTI
