Snow-hit travellers rescued in Rajouri

Security forces have rescued 75 people trapped on the Jammu-Poonch highway in the Rajouri district following heavy snowfall, a police spokesman said here on Saturday.

A joint team of army and police launched an operation in a snow-bound area on the highway in Bhimber Gali, 195 km from here, and rescued nearly 75 people early morning on January 19 , he said.

Child among those rescued

Nineteen women and a child were among those trapped at Bhimber Gali, the spokesman said.

The trapped people were rescued by the Rajouri Police with the help of army and all of them were brought to 124 Infantry Battalion (TA) headquarters in the Manjakote area.

after road is cleared

The SP (Rajouri) Mubassir Latifi said these people, now being looked after by the administration, would be allowed to move after road clearance.
