A city sessions court today said that the trial in the Rizwanur Rahman suicide case would begin on March 21.

The CBI had approached the court on the basis of a recent Supreme Court order for a trial of the accused in the 2007 case, where computer graphics engineer Rizwanur was found dead on the local railway tracks a month after he married industrialist Ashok Todi’s daughter Priyanka.

A judge of the ninth fast track court of the city sessions court said that the matter would be taken up on March 21 and the process of framing of charges against the accused would commence accordingly.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had set aside a Calcutta High Court division bench order which directed the CBI to conduct a fresh probe into the case treating it as a case of murder.

The CBI was asked to proceed with the case as suicide.

The investigative agency had chargesheeted Ashok Todi, Pradeep Todi, Anil Sarogi, S M Mohiuddin aka Pappu and police officers Sukanti Chakraborti, Krishnendu Das and Ajoy Kumar in the case.
