The Surat police on Sunday arrested three persons in connection with brutal triple murder case. A relative of VHP’s Pravin Togadia was among the three persons stabbed to death in Varachha area of Surat on Saturday.
“We have arrested three persons in connection with the triple murder and have identified four others who are absconding,” Surat Police Commissioner Ashish Bhatia said after the arrest following a sensational triple murder in the diamond city.
Extortion of money in connection with a property dispute Amreli district was the prima facie reason behind the murders, Mr. Bhatia said.
Those who were killed are Bharat Togadia, a distant cousin of VHP leader and brother of Praful Togadia, who is leader of the opposition in Surat Municipal Corporation, Balu Hirani and Ashok Patel.
The assailants had come to meet Hirani to “extort Rs. 50 lakh in connection with a peace of land in Amreli. They first stabbed Hirani and subsequently Bharat and Ashok. One more person received serious injuries and is presently in hospital.
Meanwhile, the killings have taken a political turn with the Opposition Congress slamming the State government over the law and order situation in the state.
