A proposal to give jobs to the next of kin of the 24 Eastern Frontier Rifles men killed in the Silda attack in Paschim Medinipur was being processed, West Bengal Chief Secretary A.M. Chakraborty said on Tuesday.

An order on payment of salaries to the victims’ families for the remaining period of their service was expected in a day or two, Mr. Chakraborty told journalists at the Secretariat.

Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen, however, pointed out that this salary would be frozen at current levels and would be net of the family pension paid. No allowances were payable with this salary.

“If, for instance, a jawan was drawing a salary of Rs 10,000 and his family was entitled to a family pension of Rs. 4,000, then he would get Rs. 6,000 now,” he said.
