One killed, 13 injured in two separate accidents in Manipur

One Assam Rifles personnel was killed and 13 CRPF personnel who were on poll duty were seriously wounded in two separate accidents on Sunday.

In the first accident one Assam Rifles personnel died shortly after being admitted to the hospital in Churachandpur district on Sunday. His motor bike had a head-on collision with one passenger jeep. Hospital sources said that he died within minutes of being admitted in the emergency ward.

Some CRPF personnel were going from Imphal to Moreh the border town on Sunday for election duty. Polling will take place there on Wednesday. However the bus in which they were travelling met an accident near Khudengthabi about 15 km away from Moreh. The bus plummeted and rolled down the mountain slope.

13 of the personnel sustained serious injuries as the bus rolled down the deep gorge. They were given first aid in the hospital at Moreh. As their condition became serious they were evacuated to Imphal. Sources in a private hospital said that some of them are battling for life. Police said that there was a mechanical failure resulting in the accident.
