The Bombay High Court has issued notices to actor Shah Rukh Khan, his wife Gauri Khan, and the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, while hearing a petition filed by a social activist pertaining to documents related to the actor’s child born through a surrogate mother.
A lower court had refused to direct the authorities to give the relevant papers to the activist. She challenged the court’s verdict by filing a criminal writ petition in the Bombay High Court. “I have sought documents from various authorities so that I can go ahead with the criminal case against the actor,” petitioner Varsha Deshpande told The Hindu on Monday.
Ms Deshpande said she had sought documents related to the surrogacy process. She has alleged that the actor violated the PCPNDT Act (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act) by allegedly conducting a sex determination test before their child AbRam was born. The municipal body has given a clean chit to the couple.
The Bombay High Court, after admitting the petition, issued notices to the respondents, including the actor, his wife, the municipal body and the hospital where the child was born. The matter will be heard in January 2014.
