The Army along with Assam Police launched an operation in Chirang district in west Assam on Thursday afternoon. The operation resulted in the apprehension of a hardcore National Democratic Front of Bodoland - Singbijit (NDFB-S) militant Swamla Basumatary alias Sohitab. The 30-year-old resident of Kokrajhar district, Basumatary was the assistant financial secretary of NDFB-S and was a very important member of the newly formed central committee of the outfit, sources told The Hindu .
