Celebratory firing in marriages have been banned with immediate effect in urban and rural parts of Mathura district, district police chief said on Saturday.

“Not only it has been banned but violation would invite stern action,” SSP Babloo Kumar said.

“Those take part in celebratory firing will be booked and their arms license cancelled. Also, the license of marriage hall would also be cancelled in case of violation of the ban,” he said.

SHOs concerned have been instructed to ensure implementation of the order in letter and spirit, Kumar said.

Senior police officers would apprise the order to owners of marriage halls.

“SP (city) and SP (rural) have been asked to hold a meeting of marriage home owners in their areas and apprise them about the order and consequences of violation,” the SSP said.
