The State unit BJP president Chaoba Thounaojam has demanded the resignation of Sports Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on moral grounds.

He blamed the Minister for the seventh position the State occupied in the recently-concluded National Sports Festival in Kerala.

Since there is no sports policy in Manipur, talented players had gone elsewhere and nothing was done to check this. He was speaking on Sunday at the cash prize distribution ceremony to the winners of the 25 km marathon race organised by the BJP.

There were 450 competitors in the marathon which was flagged off by Ajay Kamata, MP. In the men’s category Sanjit Luwang who clocked 1 hr 8 min and 10 seconds bagged the first prize. In women’s category S. Premila got the first prize by clocking 1 hr 40 min and 45 seconds.

Both were given Rs.30,000 each. The second and third prize winners got Rs.20,000 and Rs.15,000 each respectively.

For poor performance in the recently-concluded National Sports Festival held in Kerala
