The Jammu and Kashmir government said various steps have been taken for promotion of tourism in the state and expects a large number of arrivals from within and outside the country.

“Various steps are being taken for promotion of tourism sector in the state. We are expecting more national and international tourists to the valley this year,” Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora said after laying the foundation stone of a dock yard situated at Behrar on the banks of Nigeen Lake here.

The dock yard would be constructed at a total cost of Rs. 75 lakh by the Tourism Department and would provide facility to the shikara and house boat owners.

Jora, who was accompanied by Minister of State for Tourism Nasir Aslam Wani and Director Tourism Farooq Ahmad Shah, said his recent visit to foreign countries would help in boosting the tourism industry in the valley.

Minister of State for Tourism Nasir Aslam Wani said government has arranged 350 kanals of land to rehabilitate Dal Lake dwellers for which work on making of plots is expected to be completed before May 2010.
