Illicit liquor seized, three held

Three persons, including two women, were arrested for possession and manufacturing of illicit liquor in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

Acting on a specific information, a police team laid a check point and intercepted the two women and during their frisking 50 pouches of illicit country-made liquor were recovered in Katra area of the district, a police officer said.

The two women have been identified as Chanchla Devi and Pooja, both residents of Katra, he said, adding a case under various sections of Excise Act has been registered.

In another incident, Onkar Singh, a resident of Arnas area in Reasi, was arrested when a police team conducted raid at his house after receiving information that he was manufacturing country liquor at his residence, police said.

2.5 litres of country liquor and 20 litres of Lahan (used for preparation of country liquor) and other material were recovered from his residence.

The accused was arrested and booked under various sections of Excise Act at Police Station Arnas, the officer said. - PTI
