The talks between Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla, spearheading the community’s stir for five per cent reservation in government jobs in Rajasthan, and State Energy Minister Jitendra Singh resumed here on Sunday on the issue of setting up a committee to look into the quota demand.
Mr. Bainsla, accompanied by his senior colleague Roop Singh, started the discussions with the government emissary before meeting Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for a final round of talks later in the day, an official said.
Mr. Bainsla had held talks with Mr. Jitendra on Saturday night to resolve the quota impasse.
The government said on Saturday that it would set up a committee as directed by the High Court to look into the quota demand.
After late last night talks with the Chief Minister, Mr. Bainsla had said, “Talks were optimistic and in positive direction. The CM has assured us that Gujjars would be given their share of reservation“.
Mr. Bainsla, however, said that the ‘padav’ (sit-in) by Gujjar community would continue in Sikandra, Ajmer, Kotputali, and Kota till the government gives a written assurance on a piece of document.
The State government made no claim or statement on this issue after the talks nor Mr. Jitendra disclosed any point taken up for the discussion.
The High Court has ordered to set up a high-power committee comprising representatives of Gujjar community headed by a retire judge to work out a lasting solution to the problem.
