Five minor girls rescued; two held

Five minor girls were rescued by activists of Childline from Berhampur railway station in Odisha on Tuesday while they were allegedly being trafficked to Goa.

Two persons were arrested and an FIR lodged against them at the railway police station, said Childline director Sudhir Sabat.

Four of the rescued girls are from Gajapati district and another from Kandhamal district. According to these girls, the two accused, who hail from Adava area of Gajapati district, had promised good job and a better life in Goa to their parents. The rescued girls were produced before the Ganjam Child Welfare Committee which has sent them to the Childline shelter home in Berhampur till arrangements are made for their return to their parents or proper rehabilitation, said Mr Sabat.
