Islamic clerics belonging to Darul Uloom Deoband, one of the most influential and widely followed Islamic seminaries in the Indian subcontinent, have condemned the terror attack on the Amarnath Yatra.

“Deoband is against terrorism. We had in 2008 issued a fatwa against terror. We condemn such terror attacks in the strongest possible terms. This was completely inhuman,” said Ashraf Usmani, spokesperson of the seminary, adding that the fatwa stood for all times to come and was relevant for all kinds of terrorism. Another Deoband scholar and cleric Nadeemul Wajdi said, “Killing of innocents like it happened during the attack on the Amarnath Yatra is condemnable. Islam never allows such acts of brutality.”

He added, “The people who were killed were on a pilgrimage. This [the attack] was completely inhuman and unacceptable.
