Cong. meets CEC after lathicharge in MP

A Congress delegation met Chief Election Commissioner O.P. Rawat at his residence late on Thursday to complain against the Madhya Pradesh police for allegedly assaulting and injuring the party candidate for Saturday’s Kolaras bypoll, Mahendra Singh Yadav.

Senior leaders Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia asked Mr. Rawat to take immediate action against the police officials, posted under the Khataura police station, to ensure free and fair elections. “The police officials are behaving like BJP workers,” Mr. Kamal Nath told reporters after meeting the CEC.

The leaders said the lathicharge occurred when party workers stopped BJP MLA from Bhind, Narendra Singh Khushwaha’s car at Khataura with cash in it.

Mr. Scindia said the police lathicharged the Congress workers and Mr. Yadav was injured in his eye.
