Governor S.C. Jamir on Thursday flagged off a motorcycle expedition being organised by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) as part of its 37th Raising Day celebrations.
The tour being undertaken by 32 personnel would help spread awareness on coastal security for the upcoming annual raising day, which falls on February 1 every year.
The flag off ceremony was attended by Coast Guard Regional Commander (North East) Inspector General K.C. Pande, Commander, Coast Guard District (Odisha), Deputy Inspector General Ali Muttaher and many government officials.
The team comprising personnel from ICG, marine police and fishing community travelling on 16 motorcycles will cover distance of approximately 600 kms and will pass through Chilka, Gopalpur, Puri, Konark, Kaliakhana and Paradip.
Medical camps According to ICG, during the campaign the team will visit fishing hamlets en route and undertake community interaction programme.
Specialised well equipped ambulance along with doctors and paramedical staff of Aditya Group of Hospitals, Bhubaneswar, accompanied the campaign. The coast guard doctors along with medical team from Aditya Group Hospital will conduct medical camps and health checkups for the fishermen community. According to ICG, all personnel attending medical camps will be issued health check up card and free medicines will be distributed.
