Newly-appointed Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has assured Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of providing an “efficient” government in the State saying that his long stint in the PMO will be of great value in meeting this challenge.
Mr. Chavan met the Prime Minister at his office in Delhi on Monday.
In the meeting which lasted over an hour, Mr. Chavan discussed some of the important projects of Maharashtra such as Navi Mumbai Airport, MIHAN Project at Nagpur and setting up of the International Financial Centre at Mumbai.
Mr. Chavan also apprised the Prime Minister of the damages caused by unseasonal rains in the State, particularly in the Konkan region.
Sources in the Chief Minister’s office said Prime Minister gave his best wishes to Mr. Chavan and assured him of all his support for these as well as other projects.
During the day, Chief Minister had met Klaus Schwab, Founder Chairman of World Economic Forum and discussed the issue of setting up Regional Centre of the WEF at Mumbai.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the situation arising out of unseasonal rains in the State and asked the Chief Secretary to immediately send teams of officers to visit the affected areas and carry out a rapid assessment of the situation.
