West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will visit New Delhi in the third week of January for meeting Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram.
This follows a request made by the Union Minister to Mr. Bhattacharjee after the Lalgarh killings on January 7. Seven people died and many were critically injured in the violence.
A statement released by the Chief Minister's Office on Monday said the “Chief Minister has received a letter dated January 7, 2011, inviting him to visit Delhi. Mr. Bhattacharjee has informed that he will be able to visit Delhi in the third week of this month.”
In his letter to Mr. Chidambaram on December 31 (his second), Mr. Bhattacharjee said that he would try to go to Delhi as soon as possible to meet Mr. Chidambaram and discuss all the “related issues.”
The related issues revolved around the political clashes and armed camps in Jangal Mahal, raised by Mr. Chidambaram in his first letter to Mr. Bhattacharjee on December 21, which ran into controversy as much over its leakage to the media even before the addressee saw it, as also the mention of the word “harmad” to describe Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers, which was strongly objected to by the Chief Minister.
