Security forces rescued a businessman, abducted five days ago, from a jungle in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district, an official report said here on Sunday.

Rohtash Sharma of Goju tea garden, who was abducted at gun-point by two motorcycle-borne persons on May 10 evening, was rescued on the intervening night of May 12-13 from near Old Champu village, the report said.

The abduction was kept confidential on the requests of the man’s family and he was rescued following information.

The search was monitored by Chief Minister Kalikho Pul, Deputy Chief Minister (Home) Kameng Dolo, Parliamentary Secretary (Home) Pakgna Bage, aided by the chief secretary, DG and IG.

The government besides its own force had also mobilised the 7th Madras Regiment, Assam Rifles, CRPF and IRBN, the report said adding all exit routes were sealed, police stations in the area and neighbouring Assam alerted and sources engaged to gather information on the probable location of the abductors and the man.

The man was rescued but his abductors left him and fled.

Mr. Pul has praised the quick response and the efforts of the security forces as well as the help from the general people to rescue the businessman.

The man was first treated at the public health centre at Kharsang and later re-united with his family, the report added. - PTI
