A 62-year-old man was hacked to death allegedly by his 22-year-old neighbour in Outer Delhi’s Bawana on Tuesday morning. According to the police, the incident occurred when the victim, identified as Umedh Singh, was leaving his house for a morning walk around 6 a.m.

“Umedh Singh was leaving his home for a walk when he met his neighbour Aneesh in front of his house. The two indulged in an argument over a minor issue that escalated into a heated conversation and Aneesh attacked Singh with a sharp gardening tool he was carrying, ” a police officer said. “Singh was hit on his neck and he immediately fell on the ground. His family members called the police control room. Singh was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital,” he said.

Aneesh was later arrested and a case under sections of murder was registered at the Bawana police station. He works as a contractual employee with the Delhi Jal Board. “During the course of investigation, we found out that the incident was a result of sudden provocation. The families of the victim and accused were neighbours for a long time and they had no rivalry in the past. On Tuesday morning, a heated conversation led to an ugly spat between the two and Aneesh hit Singh in a fit of rage,” the officer added.
