Seventeen people have tested positive for swine flu in Uttarakhand out of which maximum cases are from Dehradun district, Director General Health G.S. Joshi said on Tuesday.

“We have received reports on 72 suspected cases of swine flu. 17 patients have tested positive for the disease out of which 12 are from Dehradun district, three from Haridwar and two from Udhamsinghnagar district,” Mr. Joshi said after a meeting with officials here to get an update on the status of the disease in the state.

However, the virus is not on the rise in Uttarakhand and the situation is under control, he said.

Swine flu has claimed three lives in the state so far this year, he said.

Asking people not to panic about the spread of the virus, he said normal cough and cold symptoms and those of swine flu are different and medication should be started only after a swin flu case is medically confirmed.
