Govt. missed to confer Bharat Ratna on the leprosy crusader Baba Amte
and the white revolution man Dr. Varghese Kurien. A golden chance
missed by the decision-makers. The Ratnas will be more glittering and
shining, if the highest civilian awards are conferred on the legends
when in action. My suggestions for Bharat Ratna are for the father of
the Green Revolution of India Dr. M.S. Swaminathan and the metro man
Shri E. Sreedharan. Better late than never.
Awrds, honours or distinctions should be conferred when a person is
alive or is at the peak of his/her professional carrier.these
recognitions have no value or meaning when the awardee is no more or
he/she rejects,refuses or returns the honour(Rajesh Khanna
posthumously or S. Janki, eminent singer) Why is it too late in
acknowledging the talent of distinguished musician like Pt. Gokulotsav
Maharaj,an eminent Khayal,Dhrupad& haveli Sangeet exponent, an expert
of rare ancient forms-Prabandh,ashtpadi,Samgana etc.It is unfortunate
that he was conferred Padmshree only while a musician, scholar& Guru of
his stature certainly deserved a Padm Vibhushan/bhushan.
S. Janaki is absolutely justified in refusing the Padma Bhushan. It is a disgrace that Lata be Bharat Ratna, while Janaki is only Padma Bhushan. Lata may have sung 1 million songs for the past 99 leap years, but S. Janaki is a far BETTER HUMAN BEING. That is critically important.
The sheen is off, the Padma Awards. Waste of time and money ! Eminent people simply do not attend this ceremony. The Award is sent by Regd. Post. Instead of an Award, GOI must courier 100 eminent people with an IPAD each.
