Following a court directive, top Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy was interrogated on Tuesday in the presence of his lawyer at the Special Cell police station here.
Vishal Gosain, lawyer of the top CPI (Maoist) Polit Bureau member, met him at the police station, official sources said.
However, there was confusion in the morning as Ghandy’s lawyer sent one of his juniors to be present during the interrogation, the sources said.
The junior lawyer could not meet Gandy after police said his name was not in the court order, they said.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja on Monday allowed Ghandy’s plea seeking the presence of his lawyer during his interrogation.
The Magistrate allowed the application on the condition that the counsel shall not cause any interference in the process of interrogation. Counsel shall remain present at a visual distance to be decided by the investigation officer, she had said in her order.
Ghandy, who was arrested on September 20, would be under police custody till October 15.
