Botcha for special status to Seemandhra

February 21, 2014 04:13 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:28 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

AP Congress Committee president Botcha Satyanarayana has urged the Central Government to take steps like announcing a financial package and special status to Seemandhra region that could instil confidence among the people.

He said the residuary State of AP was likely to face large-scale unemployment post bifurcation as industrial development was concentrated in Hyderabad. The Centre should accordingly announce incentives like tax holiday for some years to encourage setting up of industry in Seemandhra districts. In addition, care should be taken to announce special financial package to backward areas of north coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema region for achieving accelerated growth.

Though the Centre assured several concessions to the new State, the announcements did not figure in the Bill introduced in the Lok Sabha causing concern among the people. There was no clarity on the merger of villages under submergence of Polavaram project in Seemandhra region to avoid trouble during the construction of the project.
