The A.P. Congress leadership has found itself in piquant situation as uncertainty continues over the appointment of a successor to N. Kiran Kumar Reddy who resigned as Chief Minister on Wednesday.
The Congress leaders are against imposition of President’s rule ahead of elections as it will turn counterproductive to the party’s prospects. The impact, they feel, will be severe as it faces strong opposition on account of bifurcation. Coupled with it is the anti-incumbency factor that could worsen the situation.
APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, accompanied by Ministers N. Raghuveera Reddy, Anam Ramanarayan Reddy and Kanna Lakshminarayana, called on Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Thursday. They told the Governor that they continued to be with the Congress.
Mr. Narasimhan, they claimed, told them that he had not sent any report to the Centre so far but for informing the Union Home Ministry about Mr. Kiran Reddy’s resignation.
Mr. Narasimhan continued consultations with senior leaders of major political parties including the Congress, the Telugu Desam, the TRS and the YSR Congress.
TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao said in New Delhi that the people of Seemandhra were “our own,” and appealed to them to leave behind the bad blood. They need not have any apprehensions, fears and misgivings and can live here happily.
