The Chennai Corporation will is set to commence a study on the Permabur flyover soon. Responding to MLA V. Neelakandan who alleged that the flyover construction did not solve traffic congestion, Mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy said a decision would be made based on the results of the study.

The Rs. 51-crore flyover was inaugurated in 2010 constructed under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission with a Central government grant of 35 per cent of the project cost. The State government provided 15 per cent of the project cost as an interest-free loan and the rest was borne by the Corporation of Chennai.

Former deputy chief minister M.K. Stalin, a few days before the inauguration of the flyover, said that residents of several areas, including Perambur, Ayanavaram, Periyar Nagar, Purasawalkam Sembium, Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar and Kolathur, would benefit from the flyover. Former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi inaugurated the flyover in 2010.
