The 48-hour Telangana bandh call given by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) prompted the local authorities of the AP State Road Transport Corporation to suspend all services towards that region.
More than 200 buses plying towards Telangana went off the road on Tuesday as a precautionary measure of the officials who did not want to take any chances.
Of the suspended services, 175 buses were those moving towards Hyderabad while the remaining vehicles operate on Bhadrachalam, Kodada, and Wyra routes.
People had to reschedule their travel plans towards Hyderabad from Vijayawada and vice-versa with the RTC in the Telangana region confining its fleet of buses to its depots.
“Today alone we have incurred a revenue loss of nearly Rs. 40 lakh. We hope the situation will ease at least by tomorrow evening so that we can operate a few services,” G. Nageswara Rao, RTC Deputy Chief Traffic Manager (CTM), said.
Keeping their fingers crossed, RTC officials plan to rely on information by their counterparts in Nalgonda and Hyderabad to bring into operation their services.
With the buses staying off the road, a major chunk of the crowds at the Pundit Nehru Bus Station got diverted to the railway station, which was soon chock-a-block with people.
Those unwilling to put off their travel plans drifted to the railway station, contributing to the additional rush on the platforms.
There were no additional arrangements made by the railway authorities to take in the extra rush, resulting in crammed bogies seen on all trains going towards Hyderabad via Guntur and Kazipet.
