The district administration has accorded administrative sanction for setting up farm ponds to 704 farmers in the district under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Monsoon failure

Due to the failure of the monsoon in the State and taking into consideration the drought condition prevailing in the district, the government accorded permission for creating farm ponds for improving water sources in the fields of Adi Dravidars, ST, and small and marginal farmers under MNREGS.

The farm ponds could be set up at a cost of Rs.1.50 lakh.

Free inputs

The fisheries department will provide free inputs for fish farming in these farm ponds.

A press release from Collector C. Manoharan here on Tuesday said that the work on the farm ponds are progressing at a fast pace.

The Collector inspected farm pond work in various villages today. The farmers can execute work such as levelling the tehri lands and planting saplings.
