Ravenshaw students protest fee hike

July 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - CUTTACK:

Students affiliated to All-India DSO on Monday staged a dharna in front of the office of Ravenshaw University Registrar demanding withdrawal of the proposed hike in establishment and development fees.

The University has decided to increase these fees and levy breakage and no-meals charges on the hostel students from the current academic year. Breakage charge would be levied on inmates of the hostels towards recovery of the cost of any hostel item found broken.

Similarly, an inmate will have to pay a nominal amount as ‘no-meals’ charge to the hostel if he or she prefers not to take hostel meal on any day.

Claiming the hike in fees and levying of other charges as arbitrary and illegal, the students demanded immediate rollback of the decision.

Following assurances that the authority would give a relook to the proposed fee hike, the striking students called off their stir, said AIDSO leader Subhasmita Sahu.
