For some it's a hobby, for others a serious line of work. But anyone associated with the modelling world swears by the sheer competition in the trade. To promote young models who don't have a godfather in the industry, Gitanjali Lifestyle has initiated a model hunt.
A preview at Crown Plaza Today held recently in the Capital was attended by B4U VJ Pooja Mishra, who hosted the event, music director Shravan Rathod, film producer Barkha Roy and fashion designer Mona Lamba.
The winners, one male and one female, will get an opportunity to walk international ramps at Seattle Fashion Week, Nova Fashion Week, Virginia, and also the India International Fashion Week 2010. The female winner will also be given a break in Bollywood by Shravan Rathod and Barkha Roy in their upcoming projects. Barkha has been credited with launching Kamal Hassan and many others in filmdom.
Apart from these, winners would also receive a Maruti Suzuki A-Star.
Sanjay Kapur, the brain behind the model hunt, said, “Through this contest we are looking for young confident Indian women, booming with energy, talent, beauty and presence of mind, and dynamic men who are energetic, tall with die-hard attitude. We are searching for fresh unconventional faces that can be the face of India at an international level.”
The shortlisted 12 girls and 12 boys would be trained by experts from the fashion industry for 15 days before the finale on October 1.
Najeeb Ur Rahman, Technical head, Schwarzkopf, hairstyling partner for the event, said, “Hair is one of the most important parts of one's personality. As most Indian women have shoulder-length or medium-length hair, we would be following two of the latest Schwarzkopf hairstyles— 80s lux and new rebel.”
The soft campaign for the model hunt started on September 2 in the major cities. The event kicked off on June 5 with the auditions in Mumbai, followed by auditions in Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Pune and Bangalore.
“The whole world is looking at India today for fashion themes. Our saris and kurtis have been the theme of many leading designers' shows. India just lacks on the infrastructural front, and if worked on, that can cast its impression internationally by leaps and bounds,” said Mona Lamba, naming Ujjwala Raut and Madhu Sapre amongst her favourite models of all time.
