Vaazhathandu Raita

Vaazhathandu Raita

Banana stem is extremely nutritious. It helps in digestion, dissolves stones in the kidney and gall bladder and its fibre content also helps in weight reduction. When made into a raita it also helps in cooling the body.

What you need

Banana stem (vazhathandu), medium sized: 1

Curd: 1 cup

Green chilli: 1

Coriander leaves: for garnishing

Salt: to taste

For the seasoning

Oil: 1 tbsp

Mustard seeds: 1 tsp

Asafoetida: a pinch

Red chilli: 1

Cooking instructions

Peel the skin of the banana stem and grate finely.

In a pan, pour oil. Add mustard seeds.

After the seeds crackle, add asafoetida and red chilli. Add the grated banana stem and sauté lightly (roughly for a minute).

In another vessel transfer the banana stem along with the seasoning. Add curd, a finely chopped green chilli and salt.
