The aradhana of saint composer, Tyagaraja, was held recently at the Government Music College, Tiruvaiyaru, under the auspices of Thanjavur Pankajam A.K.Naidu Trust.
Violin duo - R. Ganesh and R. Kumaresh - paid homage to the saint composer on the occasion. They said that “‘Guru' means one who shows the ‘Gunam and Rupam' to the disciples. Tyagaraja is a ‘sath guru.' Everyone believes that his music is only traditional. But he was a path breaker in the field of Carnatic music. He tried many innovations such as fusion,” they said.
They hoped the students of the Government Music College would become eminent musicians in the future.
Propagating music
V. Srinivasan, director, All India Radio, Tiruchi, said that AIR in Tiruchi is known for two things. One for propagating music and second for broadcasting a special programme under the name ‘Farm Radio' that gives information on agriculture to the delta farmers.
Uma Maheswari, principal of the Music college, said, “This is the second year that the aradhana is being held at the college under the auspices of the Pankajam A.K.Naidu Trust. The college has been growing strong with the blessings of Tyagaraja and has emerged into a research institution in music.”
The students and staff members of the college paid tributes to Tyagaraja by rendering his Pancharatna kritis at the festival in which N. Sarangan, a senior citizen of Thanjavur, Das, founder of the trust and K. Paramasivam, manager of the trust participated. M. Karuppusamy, assistant audit officer, Thanjavur, proposed the vote of thanks.
