Vocalist Hemmige S. Prasanth displayed his intrinsic flair and competence in Carnatic music at a concert in Palakkad, recently. Perfect sruti, good choice of compositions and zestful renditions of kritis were the hallmarks of his vocal recital.
The concert took off with the popular Sankarabharanam Ata tala varnam ‘Chalamela,’ followed by an exuberant rendition of Tyagaraja’s ‘Jaanaki Ramana’ (Suddhaseemanthuni). A charming alapana of Malayamarutham succeeded by another popular number ‘Manasaetulo’ of Tyagaraja was sung with delightful niraval and carefully constructed kalpanaswaras on ‘Dinakarabhooshanu.’
The main piece of the recital was ‘Rama Ramagunaseema’ (Simhendramadhyamam) of Swati Tirunal. The raga was delineated with sparkling sangatis that displayed the bhavas promptly. An energetic niraval supplemented with swaraprastharas at ‘Munimaanasa’ was well received by rasikas.
Ragam-thanam-pallavi in Sahana was neatly presented. The vocalist’s alapana of Sahana was refreshing for he depicted individual phrases attractively and managed to present the whole picture of the raga as well.
‘Vishweshwaru’ (Sindhubhairavi) of Swati Tirunal and a thillana in Paras were the concluding pieces. Extending wonderful accompaniment, violinist T.K.V. Ramanujacharyalu scored high with his raga essays and kalpanaswara segments. K.V. Prasad on the mridangam also impressed rasikas with his soothing touches.
The concert was organised by Palghat Fine Arts Society.
