The long-cherished dream of having a railway line from Peddapalli to Nizamabad via Karimnagar, a distance of 177.6 km, for which foundation stone was laid in 1993 by then Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, is all set for the completion during the financial year 2012-13 if one goes by the allocations made in the Railway budget on Wednesday.

Against the required budget of Rs. 82 crore for the completion of the project, the Railway Ministry has allocated Rs. 50 crore in the budget and the remaining Rs. 32 crore will be made available from the internal adjustments. At present, the railway line works were completed up to Armoor of Nizamabad district from Karimnagar. The budgetary allocations will help intensify the completion of the railway project till Nizamabad and operation of train service.

It may be recalled that the first phase of railway line from Peddapalli to Karimnagar, covering a distance of 35.5 km, was completed in 2001 after the foundation stone was laid in 1993. The second phase of Karimnagar to Jagtial covering a distance of 48 km was completed in 2007. The remaining works have been progressing very slowly due to poor allocations. Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar, Peddapalli MP G. Vivekanand and Nizamabad MP Madhu Yashki Goud have strived very hard for the early completion of the ambitious railway line from Peddapalli to Nizamabad via Karimnagar. They thanked the Railway Ministry for the allocation.

The good news to the people of Karimnagar district is that the Railway Ministry has sanctioned a weekly Karimnagar to Tirupati via Peddapalli express train service in the budget. They also sanctioned a new train service between Secunderabad to Bellampalli via Peddapalli and Jammikunta and Secunderabad to Nagpur via Peddapalli and Jammikunta.

Besides, a new railway line was also sanctioned between Ramagundam and Manugur in the Peddapalli parliament constituency. The Telangana express train would be stopped at Uppal railway station in Karimnagar district after the expansion of the platform, the MPs said. Sangareddy Staff Reporter writes: The Railway Ministry sanctioned funds for a new railway line for Medak district. The railway line will be laid between Akkannapet and Medak.

According to Railway Sadhana Samithi convener G. Joginath, it was about 17 km that would benefit the district. The district is also benefited by getting extension of MMTS from Lingampally to Patancheru. The old railway line that was there between these two stations will be restored with the budget allocations. However, there is no response from the Minister to demand for Patancheru, Jogipet, Medak and Akkannapet railway line. Though the demand has been there for the past few years, the Union government is not responding positively.
