Prerna, Zeel in second round

Hong Kong: Prerna Bhambri defeated Venia Yeung of Hong Kong 6-0, 7-5 in the first round of the $15,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament here on Monday.

Prerna was joined in the second round by compatriot and second seed Zeel Desai. However, Mihika Yadav lost to Akari Inoue of Japan.

In the $25,000 ITF women’s event in Thailand, Ankita Raina and Su Jeong Jang of Korea survived a match point while perspiring to a 15-13 victory in the super tie-break against compatriot Pranjala Yadlapalli and Australian Kaylah Mcphee. Ankita and Jang converted their eighth match point after having led 9-5 at one stage.

$25,000 ITF women, Nonthaburi, Thailand: Doubles (pre-quarterfinals): Su Jeong Jang (Kor) & Ankita Raina bt Kaylah Mcphee (Aus) & Pranjala Yadlapalli 7-6(0), 5-7, [15-13].

$15,000 ITF women, Hong Kong: Singles (first round): Akari Inoue (Jpn) bt Mihika Yadav 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(6); Prerna Bhambri bt Venia Yeung (Hkg) 6-0, 7-5; Zeel Desai bt Ramona Mataruga (Aus) 7-6(4), 6-2.
