Hewitt withdraws from Malaysian Open

Organisers of the Malaysian Open say Lleyton Hewitt has pulled out of the tournament with a right hand injury, providing a wild card bonus to top Malaysian player Si Yew Ming.

Organisers say they gave the wild card to Si after receiving an e-mail from Hewitt’s manager, David Drysdale, late Friday informing them that the former top-ranked Australian has not recovered from ligament damage to his right hand.

Hewitt sustained the injury while playing for Australia in the Davis Cup World Group playoff against Belgium in Cairns last week. His absence from the reverse singles saw the former champions tumble to an embarrassing 3-2 defeat.
