M.C. Mary Kom (51kg), Monica Saun (69kg) and Pooja Rani (75kg) entered the semifinals of the Asian women's boxing championship at Ulaanbataar, Mongolia, on Thursday. This helped India ensure eight medals in the continental championship.
Pinki Jangra (48kg), Sonia Lather (54kg) and Sarita Devi (60kg) had earlier made the last four, while Bhagyabati Kachari (81kg) and Kavita Chahal (+81kg) were scheduled to begin their campaign from the semifinal stage.
In the quarterfinal bouts, Mary Kom rallied from 7-8 down in the second round to defeat local favourite Nandinsetseg Myagmardul 14-11. In the semifinals, she will meet Alice Kate Aparri of The Philippines.
Monica also staged a fightback to beat Moldir Bazarbayeva of Kazakhstan 16-14. She will challenge Dapana Durage Shiromali of Sri Lanka in the last four.
Thumping win
Pooja, who scored a comprehensive 28-6 win over Undram Erdenesoyol of Mongolia, set up a semifinal date with Su Rim Paek of North Korea.
However, Mandakini Chanu was shown the exit door by another North Korean Kil Ok Kim 17-31.
