South Korean Sung Ji Hyun handed Carolina Marin her first defeat in three contests at the Vodafone Premier Badminton League 2017, winning the women’s singles 11-7, 7-11, 14-12 for Mumbai Rockets against Hyderabad Hunters.
After Marin, Ajay Jayaram went down to Rajeev Ouseph in the men’s singles. Rockets lost the mixed doubles, their Trump tie, to give the contest a new twist.
H.S. Prannoy’s win over Sameer Verma (Trump tie for Hunters) in the fifth singles swung the final outcome 2-1 his team’s way. Both the camps were on edge during the Trump matches. Hyderabad won the mixed doubles (Mumbai’s Trump game) before Mumbai returned the favour in the second men’s singles to seal the match.
