Rising Indian driver Armaan Ebrahim managed to score some valuable points after finishing 10th in the round 8 race of the FIA Formula 2 Championship (Feeder Series to F1) in Oschersleben.
Ebrahim was faced with problems in the second practice session firstly due rain five minutes before the race and then the old tyres fitted on to his car was worn out, according to a release by his father Akbar Ebrahim.
“All I can say is that the 10th place finish and to pick up some points was very satisfying after the few ordeals that I went through earlier. I do not want to comment on the goof ups as these things do happen at times. Now, I just have to focus on Valencia, which comes up in two weeks time,” Ebrahim said.
Despite the lack of setting up changes in the car to help him improve on his lap times, Ebrahim at one stage had to abandon the last two laps for lack of fuel in his car but somehow managed to score points with a tenth spot finish.
In the first qualifying, it was only when the track started to dry a bit towards the end that he was able to pick up the pace and then pass another 6 cars and finish back in 11th place as he had dropped down to 17th in the opening laps, the release said.
“Qualifying 2 was a bit more hilarious. All were out on slicks after the track started to dry out in the first 15 minutes of qualifying. After 3 laps, Armaan was 5th overall and had not yet used his boost. He got shown the IN board as there was not enough fuel for him to complete the session.
Unfortunately Armaan could not take advantage of this as he had to abandon the last 2 laps due to lack of fuel. This put Armaan in 12th place,” Akbar said in the release.
He said “Armaan managed to pass Championship leader Jolyon Palmer and Lariche to latch on to 10th place and had a wheel-to-wheel duel with Thomas Engg who is currently 3rd in the championship. Armaan’s lap times were within the top 5 fastest race times.”
