Sunil Chhetri, who missed the inaugural Hero Indian Super League (HISL), has a base price of Rs. 80 lakh for the first HISL player auction to be held here on July 10. The 30-year-old striker has signed with the Football Sports Development Limited, promoter of HISL, as a free agent along with five others — Karanjeet Singh, Anas Edathodika, Arata Izumi, Robin Singh and Thoi Singh.

“Chhetri has completed the I-league this season with Bengaluru FC and has opted to sign with the ISL as a free agent. The arrangement is that his club will loan him back to Bengaluru FC for Rs. 75 lakh after the second HISL season. Chhetri is assured a sum of Rs. 1.55 crore for the 2015-16 season,” said an official.

In all, 10 players — who didn’t compete in the inaugural edition — will feature in the first auction, and this will be followed by the 113 player draft on the same day. Apart from the six free agent category players, Jackichand Singh, Seityasen Singh, Rino Anto and Eugeneson Lyngdoh will also figure in the auction.

Following Chhetri in the auction list is goalkeeper Karanjeet Singh at Rs. 60 lakh. Robin Singh, Izumi and Edathodika have a base price of Rs. 40 lakh each. Thoi Singh’s base price is Rs. 39 lakh, Lyngdoh’s Rs. 27.50 lakh, Jackichand Singh and Seityasen Singh’s Rs. 20 lakh each and Rino Anto at Rs. 17.50 lakh.

The eight HISL clubs have either retained or chosen from the open market a total of 64 Indian players. “The comprehensive draft list will help ISL franchises fill up a total of 40 positions in the Indian player quota,” said a press release.
