Rafael Benitez’s job as Liverpool manager is not under threat, the Premier League club have confirmed.
The Spaniard is under increasing pressure after his side were dumped out of the FA Cup by Championship club Reading in the third round.
Liverpool have been struggling for form all season and lie seventh in the league table, 12 points off the pace.
News that Fernando Torres, their star striker, will be out for six weeks because he needs knee surgery and that their captain Steven Gerrard is out for two weeks merely added to Benitez’s woes.
But in an email to the BBC , Liverpool’s managing director Christian Purslow said the manager had the full support of the club board.
