Tushar Arothe has resigned as coach of India’s national women’s cricket team. After India’s fine showing in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 in England, the BCCI offered Arothe a two-year contract in November 2017. He had replaced Purnima Rau in April 2017.
But serious differences appears to have cropped up between him and the senior members of the Indian team during the Indian team’s failed campaign in the Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur last month. Subsequently the BCCI officials Rahul Johri and Saba Karim and also the CoA Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji met Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur. Arothe was also given an opportunity to express his views.
A BCCI release on Tuesday said: “The BCCI has accepted coach Tushar Arothe’s resignation. Arothe cited personal reasons behind his resignation and thanked the BCCI for giving him an opportunity to work with the team.’’
It was at the instance of the same senior players that the BCCI appointed Arothe as coach. Under his coaching the team reached the final of the World Cup final, won the three-match ODI series and five-match T20I series in South Africa.
