Kapil Dev undergoes heart procedure

Kapil was inducted into the International Cricket Council’s Hall of Fame in 2010.

Veteran cricketer and captain of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team Kapil Dev underwent angioplasty during the early hours of Friday at the Fortis Escorts hospital in New Delhi. The hospital said his condition was stable. 

Past midnight on Thursday, Kapil felt pain in his chest and was rushed to the hospital. Following an angiography test, a single block was found and a team of doctors, led by Dr. Atul Mathur, performed angioplasty. 

On Friday, the hospital released a statement saying: “Former Indian Cricket captain Mr. Kapil Dev, Age 62 years, came to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (Okhla Road) emergency department at 1:00 am on 23rd October with a complaint of chest pain. He was evaluated and an emergency coronary Angioplasty was performed by Dr. Atul Mathur, Director of Cardiology Department, in the middle of night. 

“Currently, he is admitted in ICU and under close supervision of Dr. Mathur and his team. Mr. Kapil Dev is stable now and he is expected to get discharged in couple of days.” 

A legion of fans and friends took to social media to wish the legendary sporting icon a speedy recovery.
