Too close for comfort: Virat Kohli finds himself in an odd situation.

Too close for comfort: Virat Kohli finds himself in an odd situation.

It was a close call for India captain, Virat Kohli.

For, a spectator broke through the much-publicised security cordon and ran onto the pitch in the 15th over of the West Indies innings even as everyone was taken aback at the incident and the security personnel seemed to be clueless as to what was happening on the first morning of the second Test here on Friday.

The bearded spectator rushed towards Kohli, pulled out his mobile, posed for a selfie and then as the players and the sparse crowd watched, even hugged the India captain and planted kisses, too.

A clear breach of security. The HCA officials heaved a sigh of relief as fortunately nothing untoward happened. Two security personnel led the spectator away and handed him over to the police.

“We are lucky nothing major happened. Imagine the kind of impact it would have had if Kohli, or for that matter any other player, was injured,” said a senior HCA official.

With the Chief Executive Officer being the implementing authority for all decisions on the conduct of the Test, most of the office-bearers are clearly indifferent as they have no role to play.
