A whirlwind unbeaten 108 by No. 8 Charanjeet Singh and his useful stand with last man Nitin Yadav lifted North Zone from 237 for nine to 365 against South Zone on the first day of the four-day Vizzy Trophy inter-zonal inter-varsities cricket final, here on Wednesday.

Charanjeet's 108 came off only 110 balls and contained four sixes and 17 fours.

His 128-run last-wicket stand with Yadav (41) rallied North after left-arm spinners Abrar Kazi and Sumanth Daniel shared seven wickets for South Zone.

Kazi bagged four wickets, while Daniel sliced his way through the middle-order.

The scores: North Zone 365 (Gaurav Kochar 46, Dhruv Sharya 34, Charanjeet Singh 108 n.o., Nitin Yadav 41, A. Kazi four for 86, S. Daniel three for 106) vs. South Zone 18 for no loss.
