Ponting to undergo surgery on injured finger

January 03, 2011 03:03 pm | Updated 04:03 pm IST - SYDNEY

Cricket Australia said skipper Ricky Ponting will have surgery on his injured finger on Tuesday, but is expected to be fit for the World Cup starting next month in South Asia.

A Cricket Australia spokesman said Ponting, who is missing the fifth Ashes Test against England in Sydney, would undergo surgery on the little finger of his left hand because it was “just decided that surgery is the best option for his recovery.”

Ponting hurt the finger attempting a slips catch in Australia’s win over England in the third Ashes Test at Perth last month.
