The BCCI will hold its much-awaited Annual General Meeting (AGM) here on March 2. The date was announced after the Board’s working committee met at a city hotel on Sunday. The Supreme Court had set March 5 as the deadline for conducting the AGM.
The Board said in a release: “The working committee discussed the implications of the Supreme Court’s judgment and decided to act per legal advice.”
The meeting, attended by all 24 members of the working committee, lasted nearly 70 minutes. N. Srinivasan took part in the deliberations.
BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla said: “The topic of Mr. Srinivasan contesting for the post of president was not discussed… That will come up in the days leading to the AGM.”
On the Chennai Super Kings being transferred to a new subsidiary by India Cements, Mr. Shukla said: “It is for them [India Cements] to decide.”
A BCCI member who attended the meeting said the Board might file a review petition in the Supreme Court, which had questioned the autonomy of the Board.
The BCCI increased the monthly gratis scheme for all former cricketers by 50 per cent, subject to a maximum of Rs. 50,000 a month, effective from January this year.
Although the agenda for Sunday’s meeting largely focussed on scheduling the AGM, it is believed the “informal” discussions that went on late into Saturday night had ensured a smooth passage for Mr. Srinivasan in case he opted to contest. If Mr. Srinivasan decides against standing in the election, the former India off-spinner, Shivlal Yadav, is almost certain to be elected unopposed as the candidate nominated by East Zone.
