Dhanpal Ganesh and N. Mohanraj are here to prove a point and not just to satisfy the collective desire of fans who are eager to watch a Tamil Nadu-born footballer showcase his skills (for the first time) at the Marina Arena in the Indian Super League.

“We want to prove ourselves,” declared the two, after signing for defending champion Chennaiyin FC, at a press conference here on Tuesday.

“Marco was interested. It’s like your first love ending in a marriage,” said the 27-year-old left back, who has played for Mohun Bagan and Pune FC in the I-League.

Ganesh, who plays in central midfield position, said this time he is fit and raring to go. “I forgot that I was injured. I am determined to do well,” he said.

Coach Marco Materazzi hoped that both will make their inclusion count. “Ganesh was very unlucky to be injured last year. We hope to have him at his best this season. Mohanraj is already an ISL winner and has the quality to make a big difference in our title defence,” he said. — Special Correspondent
